It's Not Just About The Calories

I have a little app on my phone called “Fitness Pal”. It keeps me on track throughout the day. I track my calorie intake and output. I just type in what I eat, drink and how long I exercise and it totals everything. Why do I use it? Good question.

I found my clothes getting a bit snug and my first thought was, “I haven’t changed what I eat! I don’t eat that much!” So, I decided to challenge myself and just track how much I was actually eating/drinking in calories. Guess what? I was WAY over target!

The issue of calories in vs. calories out is a complicated one. Unless you have a few hours to sit and discuss it, I won’t go into it. Let me just say that all calories are NOT created equal! The 150 calories from a snack of carrot sticks and humus is NOT equal to a 150 calorie cookie. The two act completely different in your body.

I personally follow the Blood Type Diet by Dr. D’Adamo. I believe in the science behind it and interestingly enough, several high profile Medical Doctors agree with me, including Dr. Mehmet Oz. My type A blood doesn’t like animal protein, dairy or certain grains. I was designed to be a vegetarian. Here is a quick profile of each blood type:

A-Vegetarian

B-Balanced Omnivore

AB- Mixed Diet (meat, fish, dairy, veggies, grains)

O- High Protein (especially organic red meat)

“Your hands have made me and fashioned me: give me understanding, that I may learn your commandments.” Psalm 119:73

God created each of us according to the plan He has for us. When He formed us in our mother’s womb, each part of us was designed for His purpose right down to our blood type! Our strengths and weaknesses were all thought out and planned. Of course He also gave us the free will of humanity. With my free will I choose to live according to His plan for health or against it. When I choose to live against His plan my body is prone to; heart disease, Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes, Cancer, liver and gallbladder disorders. I know this to be true in my personal experience with liver and gallbladder problems. How about you?

A-Heart disease, Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes, Cancer, Liver and gallbladder disorders

B-Type 1 diabetes, Chronic fatigue, autoimmune diseases: Lou Gehrig’s disease, lupus, multiple sclerosis

AB- Heart disease, cancer

O- blood-clotting disorders, inflammatory diseases, such as arthritis, low thyroid production, ulcers and allergies

Clients ask me if eating the diet for their blood type will keep them from ever getting sick. My answer to that is, “There is no absolute guarantee because our Creator has the final say. At least if you get sick you will know it is an act of God and not because you were a poor steward of your health!”

Are you a good steward of your health or does your free will to indulge control you?

“What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own?” I Corinthians 6:19

When we feel good physically it helps us feel good emotionally too. Maybe it's time to take another look at how you were created to live!

I just read an article talking about Dr. Oz and the blood type diet. I already changed my diet, so I'll keep you posted on the results :)
